Nikki Farquharson.

March 21, 2010

I just stumbled upon the work of Nikki Farquharson on ‘thecoolhunter.co.uk‘ and had to take a look at her website. Her illustrative/typographic work is filled-to-bursting with imaginative and thought-provoking explosions of colour and composition. As if created under the influence, the ‘Mixed Media Girls’ series of images combine found images with bursts of bright colour and pattern to create highly-visual ‘feasts’ for the eyes, oozing the personalities of the girls whose  images have been used and each creation screaming right out of the page. …A definite recommendation for a website to check out!

‘SLEEPBOX’ by Arch Group.

March 21, 2010

Just found this incredible new solution to hostel accommodation on ‘thecoolhunter.co.uk‘. Designed by Russia’s ‘Arch Group’, the ‘SLEEPBOX’ is intended to “allow very efficient use of available space and, if necessary, a quick change of layout”. Featuring all the mod-cons of a typical hostel room but with the added privacy that seperate ‘SLEEPBOX’es allow, they provide a very cost effective, and simple alternative to the typical stacked bunk-beds, squashed wall-to-wall, with little or no space to yourself. …A great idea!

El Día de los Muertos (T-shirt illustration)

March 4, 2010

I’ve only ever produced illustrations for personal use, but decided that I’d like to try my hand at designing some illustrations to be printed onto t-shirts, ready for the summer of 2010.
Here is the development for the first of my designs, titled “El Día de los Muertos”, inspired by the Mexican festival of the same name, in English it translates as “Day of the Dead”, and is a day when people celebrate the lives of those passed on. …a great idea!
It’s nice to remember the dead in my opinion, so this if you like, is my English (…more subtle’) “Day of the Dead” celebration method.

Hand-made Valentines Day card.

February 11, 2010

I’m extremely lucky to be going out with an amazing girl, and this Valentines Day will be our first together. We decided to make each other Valentines Day cards instead of buying them to be a bit more special. We also decided that the design should be a rose. :) …this is my attempt. (Apologies for the poor quality, the photo was taken at night)

Happy Christmas 2009.

February 11, 2010

I started to realise that searching endlessly for a card with the right message is a bit tedious. Especially being an illustrator.

So I decided from here on in to start making my own cards. This way I get the message I want every time, and can produce special ‘one-off’s for the ones I love. In this case, a completely unique Christmas Card for my beautiful girlfriend Stephanie. :) …Of course an angel!

A few recent illustrations.
